The Highs and Lows of ACOWAR. Is It Maas’s Best Yet?

I have just finished A Court of Wings and Ruin, the third book from the A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) saga by Sarah. J. Maas, and I’m speechless. It’s amazing how each book builds on the last to create an immersive experience. Maas’s skill at deepening character arcs and raising the stakes makes this series truly remarkable. The capacity of this woman to amaze us book after book is incredible.

The second book had a shocking ending, leaving many questions unanswered. What’s going to happen with Elaine and Nesta? Will there be a war? What will Feyre do with Tamlin? The audacity to leave the reader this hungry is both infuriating and exciting.

While A Court of Mist and Fury had a slower beginning, A Court of Wings and Ruin goes hard from the start. Packed with intense battles, romantic tension, and complex character development, ACOWAR continues Feyre’s journey through the fae realms as war looms over Prythian. There is no chance for a break. Once you start reading this book, there’s no chance you’ll stop.

Sarah J. Maas presents a heart-warming romance story between Feyre and Rhysand. An incredible brotherhood, and the power of friendship. Even though this book has its remarkable action scenes, what makes the story stand out is the development of the characters. Not just Feyre, but every character has its evolution. It could be for the better (look at Rhysand 🖤), or for worse (yes, Tamlin, I’m looking at you 😒), but no character is left unexploited. Everyone has their place in the story.

Overall, I have no complaints about this book. The ACOTAR saga ages like fine wine. A Court of Thorns and Roses is a good book, but the next book is always better.

Summary

Feyre has returned to the Spring Court, determined to gather information on Tamlin’s actions and learn what she can about the invading king threatening to bring her land to its knees. But to do so she must play a deadly game of deceit. One slip could bring doom not only for Feyre, but for everything-and everyone-she holds dear.

As war bears down upon them all, Feyre endeavors to take her place amongst the High Fae of the land, balancing her struggle to master her powers-both magical and political-and her love for her court and family. Amidst these struggles, Feyre and Rhysand must decide whom to trust amongst the cunning and lethal High Lords, and hunt for allies in unexpected places.
