Bridgerton Season 1

The Best Bridgerton Season Ever?
At first glance, it may seem like just another romantic period drama. Nevertheless, once you start watching it, let’s be fair, it hooks you. Maybe it’s the incomparable chemistry between the leads, the elegance of the settings, or simply the charm of its romantic storytelling. However, the Bridgerton series has the “it” effect that we haven’t seen in a long time.
The Bridgertons are a British noble family. Violet and Edmund Bridgerton had eight children before the sudden death of the viscount. In the series, each season centers on one of the children, showing their struggles in the marriage market and finding true love.
This first season portrays the story of Daphne, the eldest daughter and fourth child of the Bridgerton family. She has her debut on the British marriage market and becomes the diamond of the season. She has plenty of suitors, though her goal is simple: she wants a love marriage. Will she get it?
By the time I’m writing this post, I have watched the first three seasons of the series, and so far I can say that Daphne Brigerton’s season is my favourite. In fact, she is my favourite Bridgerton sibling. She is innocent, yet often more emotionally mature than her older brothers.
The first season of Bridgerton follows the classic “fake relationship that turns real” trope. And I’m here to tell you I completely loved it.
I admit that I’m more of an enemies-to-lovers type of girl, but this season was a chef’s kiss. The chemistry between Simon Basset and Daphne Bridgerton was perfect. I felt their happiness, anger, and sadness as if they were my own.
Netflix’s Bridgerton has certain things that turned me off. SPOILER ALERT! For instance, I have had long discussions on whether Daphne “child-trapped” Simon, or if her actions were justified. This moment divided fans more than any other scene in the series, and it completely changed how some viewers saw Daphne and Simon’s relationship. Despite those controversial moments, Season 1 still ranks first in my personal list.
If you didn’t know, Bridgerton is based on the novels by Julia Quinn, and there are significant differences between the book and the series. Nevertheless, I believe Netflix couldn’t have done a better job with this first season. You can read my review of Julia Quinn’s book to know the main differences between the series and the book.
Do you still think Season 1 is the best Bridgerton season? How would you rank Daphne and Simon’s story compared to the others? Tell us all about it in the comments.
Synopsis
Bridgerton follows Daphne Bridgerton, the eldest daughter of the powerful Bridgerton family as she makes her debut onto Regency London’s competitive marriage market. Hoping to follow in her parents’ footsteps and find a match sparked by true love, Daphne’s prospects initially seem to be unrivaled. But as her older brother begins to rule out her potential suitors, the high society scandal sheet written by the mysterious Lady Whistledown casts aspersions on Daphne. Enter the highly desirable and rebellious Duke of Hastings, committed bachelor and the catch of the season for the debutantes’ mamas. Despite proclaiming that they want nothing the other has to offer, their attraction is undeniable and sparks fly as they find themselves engaged in an increasing battle of wits while navigating society’s expectations for their future.
Bridgerton is a romantic, scandalous, and quick-witted series that celebrates the timelessness of enduring friendships, families finding their way, and the search for a love that conquers all.
