Not all sequels are disappointing

After reading “Cray Rich Asians” I HAD to read “China Rich Girlfriend” too. I planned to stick to the movies, but I couldn’t wait any more to find out what happened with Rachel and Nick, and I must say, the story doesn’t disappoint.

This second book talks about Rachel and the story of her father. Who he is, how he finds her, and how their relationship develops. However, indeed, they don’t get the spotlight. Along with Rachel’s discoveries, we learn about Astrid and SPOILER ALERT Rachel’s brother.

Even though I hoped for more of Rachel and Nick, I also enjoyed the rest of the stories. Without these additional events, the book would be too short and boring. Rachel’s family drama is hooking, but it is not enough.

Overall, I can’t complain about Kevin Kwan. I am very fond of his writing. I love how much detail he puts into everything that he writes. Every character adds something necessary to the book. No person could be left out. Moreover, despite the extensive vocabulary and descriptive techniques he uses, not even a word is useless.

I know that thanks to “Crazy Rich Asians” I fell in love with the drama of this family. However, because of “China Rich Girlfriend” I realized that between all the drama, what I enjoyed the most was how effortlessly I could read these books.

The plot

On the eve of her wedding to Nicholas Young, heir to one of the greatest fortunes in Asia, Rachel should be over the moon. She has a flawless Asscher-cut diamond from JAR, a wedding dress she loves more than anything found in the salons of Paris, and a fiance willing to sacrifice his entire inheritance in order to marry her. But Rachel still mourns the fact that her birthfather, a man she never knew, won’t be able to walk her down the aisle. Until: a shocking revelation draws Rachel into a world of Shanghai splendor beyond anything she has ever imagined.

Here we meet Carlton, a Ferrari-crashing bad boy known for Prince Harry-like antics; Colette, a celebrity girlfriend chased by fevered paparazzi; and the man Rachel has spent her entire life waiting to meet: her father.

Meanwhile, Singapore’s It Girl, Astrid Leong, is shocked to discover that there is a downside to having a newly minted tech billionaire husband.

A romp through Asia’s most exclusive clubs, auction houses, and estates, China Rich Girlfriend brings us into the elite circles of Mainland China, introducing a captivating cast of characters, and offering an inside glimpse at what it’s like to be gloriously, crazily, China-rich.

“China Rich Girlfriend” is the continuation of the book “Crazy Rich Asians”. If you have already read both of them, then your next book should be “Rich People Problems”.
