Forgettable, yet timeless
I had forgotten I had watched this series until I came across some videos of a scene. I instantly decided I had to write a review of “I am Not a Robot” since it is an iconic series in Korea (or so I believe).
“I am not a robot” is a science fiction series. It talks about a man allergic to humans and a girl who pretends to be a robot. Now, just by this sentence, you must think that the series will be “strange”, “childish”, or the storyline will be “bland”. Well, at least I did. I didn’t know how wrong I was.
I think “I’m not a robot” hides dipper ideas behind that sci-fi mask: conquering fears, honesty, prejudice… It made me rethink my priorities in life, what I was doing that I liked, and the things I was leaving out.
The second you start watching kdramas (aka Korean series), “I’m Not a Robot” is one of the first ones people recommend. Along with “Descendants of the Sun” and “What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim?”, this series has gained popularity not only because of its cast (because I can assure you it’s good) but because of the relaxed feeling it gives to the watcher.
So, as I have said, even if the plot might throw you back, believe me when I say that the popularity it has gained relies on good arguments. Please watch it. I know you will love it.
Synopsis
Min-Kyu is the largest shareholder of a finance company. He is handsome and intelligent, but he lives in seclusion due to his allergy of people. Meanwhile, Ji-A is an aspiring entrepreneur and works as a personal shopper. She receives a phone call from her ex-boyfriend Baek-Gyun. Her ex-boyfriend is a world renown developer of android robots. His latest creation is the android Aji 3, which he built with the same physical appearance as Ji-A, but an accident has broken Aji 3. Making matters worse, he has received an order for Aji 3 from Min-Kyu with the promise of more investment money if he’s satisfied. Being in such a predicament, Baek-Gyun offers money to Ji-A if she will go to Min-Kyu’s home and pretend to be Aji 3. Ji-A is in need of money and accepts the offer. ~AsianWiki
